Education for Iranian Women
Category: Education
Pitch:
Iran, a country in the middle east where women have little human rights, including little rights to a proper education. This project is to build a classroom in Tehran, Iran seating about 50-100 students, where uneducated women can learn. Education is needed here because in Iran, women make up only 15% of the working population. This percentage is the lowest in the middle east which is regionally the lowest in the world. The women that do work here also traditionally earn less than the men do. I believe that women all over the world deserve to be treated with equal rights and that human rights starts with education. My goals are to help women become capable to support themselves and their families, to help women discover what they would like to do for a living and to support them to become independent and literate people with full access to human rights.
Critical Need:
This project is important because it will help give equal rights to women and give education to those lacking it. This chart shows data collected by WEF in 2011. It shows that although one hundred percent of women in Iran are enrolled into primary school, only forty percent of women are enrolled to secondary school; the lowest of all the countries surveyed. If my classroom can fit another 100 students in it, that number will increase; I know that it won't be a lot but it will be a start.
This project will benefit this world because women in Iran women will become more accepted in their culture and women who succeed in getting a great education, may become doctors or politicians that may impact the world greatly. I hope that this third world country will become a first world country with my help; and it can all start with one classroom in the middle of Tehran, Iran.
Feasibility:
I will be buying an studio area where I can teach the women attending my classes. I will ask Lowes and Staples Business Depot to help supply the money and materials needed to build the classroom in Tehran. These companies can supply building materials such as furnishing items, paint, flooring etc. and school supplies such as pencils, paper, erasers etc. I would also ask for start up money to hire people needed to teach as well as any extra supplies I might need. I would ask for about $100 000 to start up this project. I would also ask for donations to help supply my classroom. I will ask for 100 desks with 100 chairs, 200 packages of paper, 200 packages of pencils, 200 packages of sharpeners, 2-3 white boards (large), 200 packages of dry erase markers, 150 geometry sets, 200 packages of erasers, 10 cans of paint and posters of the periodic table, maps and math. This totals to about a cost of about $16 250. Which is easily done by these big name companies.

I love your idea Heather! I also really enjoyed how you added a table to your blog to show the statistics, it draws the readers eye to the facts before continuing to learn more information about them. One thing that I would suggest is to do more research on why the women do not attend secondary school. Is it because there are not enough schools in the country? or is it because of discrimination?
ReplyDeleteWell written blog Heather! The first picture has a very big impact on the topic, and relates very well. As well as good facts on women in Iran, and a realistic goal. As Madison said, the graph clearly shows the enrolment rate between primary and secondary schools. A few things to look at are: you only have two sites, and a few spelling mistakes. Other than those, great job!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading you blog heather! It got straight to the point of what you were looking to achieve and showed in great context how to achieve it. You have some very good ideas and have very good goals set. Your research is very well shown and you pictures show exactly what this project will be about. Good job :)
