                   AIDS Awareness Project

Category: Freedom>

Pitch:

According to estimates by WHO and UNAIDS 35.3 million people were living with AIDS by the end of 2012. Worldwide, Nigeria has the second highest number of new infections reported each year, and an estimated 3.7 percent of the population are living with HIV. 5-15% of the AIDS population in South Africa is made up in countries like Nigeria. The understanding and awareness of AIDS is extremely limited in third world countries like Africa. Approximately 210,000 people died from AIDS in Nigeria in 2011 and with the virus constantly rising the death toll will keep increasing. This project aims to spread awareness and prevent the virus from spreading further. We will set up a number of stations/sites throughout the country that aim to educate the nearby community.

Critical Need & Impact

Nigeria is in critical need of awareness. The literacy rate in Nigeria is 61.3%, showing that it lacks education. It is in critical need of education and information on the virus. Some people may not know they carry the disease and are unaware of what they should do to prevent it from spreading.

This project will benefit Nigeria by spreading awareness and informing the people the cautions they should follow. This project will reduce the amount of of people catching the disease and save many lives.

Feasibility

This project will begin January 10, 2014 and run for 2 years, until  January 10, 2016.

The Toronto Blue Jays will provide us with help to start the project.
They are a great organization to work with for this project because they are always donating to help out different charities and causes and they would be grateful to be able to participate in this project as well.

We will require 500,000 dollars to get this project going. This will pay for the awareness stations, supplies, workers, travel costs, and fundraisers.

-15 stations = $5000 x 15
-medical supplies and condoms = $50,000
-workers = $10,000
-travel costs = $100,000
-fundraisers = $100,000
-extra costs = $160,000

Last Points

My name is Cameron Bonanno and I am 15 years old. I am currently attending Bill Crothers Secondary School in Ontario, Canada. I am a student athlete and am part of a provincial baseball team. Sports have been a part of my life since I was younger and I plan to keep on improving each year.
Throughout my entire life, I have researched many different countries around the world and I have been able to see how lucky I am to be living in Canada. This project gives me  an opportunity help out a third world country and hopefully make a difference in the world.
