Football in Tanzania. Joke? Or Unrealistic Reality?

Football in Tanzania. A Joke? Or Unrealistic Reality?

Pitch

The point of this project is to bring the great sport of football to the country of Tanzania. No, not football as in soccer, nor American football, but my personal favourite, Canadian football. I want to pursue in educating the children, the teenagers, AND the adults of Dodona, Tanzania about the sport of Canadian football. My goal is to ultimately get the people of Tanzania playing organized football. I feel that everyone deserves the chance to play football, and with this project, I think I could do just that. The way I will do this is by holding a one month summer camp devoted strictly to football. I feel that this is an opportunity to give back to the football community, although it is on a completely different hemisphere. Every child should get the opportunity to play sports from a young age, and I have a great opportunity to do so with this football camp.

Background Informantion on Tanzania found by the CIA

Literacy Rate:                                  Unemployment Rate- 8.8%
Total- 67.8%
Male- 75.5%
Female- 60.8%

Population:
44.8% 0-14 years of age
19.4% 15-24
29.3% 25-54
3.5% 55-64
2.9% 65+

With this information that has been gathered, this camp will be more oriented towards children under the age of 15.

Critical Need

In Tanzania, unfortunately 0% of people there do not play organized American or Canadian football. Tanazians do play sports such as basketball, soccer, and rugby. These are three very popular sports. With foobtall, it can diversify the types of sports these children play by giving them more choices of great sports to play. Teaching these kids through sport and play will not only educate them about the sport, but educate them about skills used in everyday life. Now, it may not seem like it with football because it is so violent, but it brings people closer together; not just on the field. It builds teamwork, friendships, manners, and builds the comrodary of a community. With all sports, you learn lessons in life, at least I hope so. In football, it teaches you that having the right people around you, having a positive energy, will ultimately lead you to success; not only in the sport, but in life also.

Global Impact?

This project will not necessarily benefit the world itself, but the world of sports. I think it will do this because once people hear about football being played in Tanzania, other people are going to want to start teaching kids in other third world countries to play Canadian football. Also, it will benefit the children, teenagers, and adults who decide to participate in this camp because they are learning how to play one of the most popular sports and one of the greatest sports there is in the world.
