Education for all

"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men."  - Frederick Douglasse

Pitch-

Some countries in the world aren't as fortunate as Canada, they don't have clean water, food, shelters, technologies, education and all other necessities of life like we do. Chad, one of the worst place in the world, is one of them. People in Chad can't enjoy life like we do, they can't even go to school and learn the basics, chad can't improve its country without smart, educated man and woman. Chad only has a literacy rate of 47% with only 9% of student make it pass high school, unlike Canada who has literacy rate of 99%. The worst of all is that they do not have access to any books nor internet.  This is why my friends, volunteers and i will travel to the capital of Chad, W'Djamena, to build a library for all those who have the heart to learn and a safe place for children to interact, learn things, share ideas and inspire each other. In the library there will be access to many different type of books, from how to build a paper airplane to math skills for grade 6s. with the simple education they can create a lot of opportunity for jobs.I think a library will bring happiness and hope to Chad as more people will be educated. This project is important to me because i believe every kid on this planet deserve to learn and explore their hobbies, the world can be so much better because everyone would thrive in their hobby. i always liked learning new things in life. i am ready to give kids in Chad a chance. My two goals in this project is to give kids a opportunity to learn and build a better future for Chad.

Critical Need -

The reason of starting this project is because Chad has a very bad environment and educated people is the only way to improve the country. The literacy rate of people over the age of 15 is only 33%. 83% of the population are living under 2 dollars a day, they can't even feed their family properly, needless to say about books and education. Building this library will make sure these kids get a chance in life to be something better. Educated man and woman means there will be more profession such as doctor, scientist and more. in 2004, there was 0 physician per 1000 people. Someone has to start a movement to provide kids with education and improve the world overall, this is why i plan it to do the best i could for Chad.

Impact -

This can create a international movement, people will start to realize how important really is, not just in Chad, but in all the third world countries, this will inspire people all over the world to help who those are in need. By having a library in Chad, more kids will learn and have a chance to explore new things, it will give them more skills and look for and create more jobs. This can really turn Chad around to improve their lifes.

Feasibility -

I'm planning to help Chad as soon as possible, I plan to travel to Chad in the summer of 2014, June, til September 2014. 3 months will give us enough time for volunteers and I to build a library.
I will contact business such as chapters and school to donate new and used books, then i will process to ask Best buy and future shop for computers and donation. Lastly i will ask the Canadian government and non profit organization to donate and rise awareness about this project to get more support. I will need 100,000 dollar for many items such as books, computers, internet connection, desk, chairs, library, shelve and much more.

*all price are estimated

100 desk - $3,000
200 chairs - $3,000
structure of the library - $20,000
60 steel library shelve - $10,000
10 computers - $4,000
6 doors - $1,000
lights - $500
books - $10,000
Airplane tickets & Meals - $10,000

These total add up to $ 61,500, the rest of the money will then be donated to Chad. In return of these big company donation, we will post different kind of advertisement. After the library is build, we will train young men and woman to read and write, then invite teachers in Chad to help in the library so they can help other kids to read and write, when those kids grow up, they can teach the next generation how to read and write.

Last Points-

  1. Your project is very convincing and well written. I really enjoyed the fact that you had many statistics to support your evidence. As well, I enjoyed how you had many colorful pictures that showed students in Chad having a fun time learning with each. For next time, you can include the URL of the website in your citations so that is easier to go to the website.

  3. Great blog! The quote in the beginning really caught my eye, and was really meaningful in relation to your project. Good research on W'Djamena, Chad, and great pictures that relate with the topic. Another good idea was when you said you'd teach young men and women how to read and write. A few things to look at are: in my opinion more colour is needed to show emphasis, and a few spelling mistakes. Other than those few little suggestions great job!
